Originally published under the title 'Welcome to Wherever you are' in 2015, Marrs has changed the title to 'The Vacation' (first published as 'The Vacation' in 2021. I am a huge fan of Marrs, therefore it pains me to say that I am not enjoying this much. Granted, I am only 137 pages in, but I am really struggling to keep up with the many characters in this book. Each character has a complicated back story, some of them are more memorable than others, therefore when I reach a chapter showcasing a character I can't really remember or don't care that much about, I am finding it very hard to push on. I am having to go back and forth through the chapters, to remind myself of who is who. I loved 'Keep it in the Family' and 'The Good Samaritan.' Marrs, is the master of twists, and therefore, I am hoping that it will all start to pull together soon, and that the reason for all of these strangers coming together will soon become clear (I do have a sneaky suspicion already of what it might be)
I am a member of the 'Psychological Thriller Reader's' group on Facebook, and someone had posted that they were currently reading 'No One Rides For Free' by Judith Sonnet. The woman who had reviewed the book, said that she could not finish it, that it was too graphic and disturbing for her and that she felt like she needed to scrub her skin in the shower after reading it. It sounded like a challenge to me .. I like to think that I am fairly open minded and not easily shocked. I am only two chapters in and so far, other than some pretty descriptive sexual imagery, it hasn't 'made me heave' yet, as other readers have admitted to. Sonnet apparently wrote the novella in just ten days. That's very impressive and admirable. I will update my review when I have finished reading!
